Racing for Fun

The Team gets some Blue to go with the Pink

Last weekend saw the Baines motorsport head up the Gosford showground to run the NSW Speedway kart Titles .

It has been over 18 months since the team has had the chance to go to Gosford and therefore went in to the meeting hoping for good solid results on a surface that has changed since last there .

Its was a big weekend of racing across both Saturday and Sunday and the boys competed in 4 heats of 12 laps and a final of 20 laps .

At this meeting Jake was competing in the Junior National Light class and Wayne was competing in the KT Modified Heavy class .

On Saturday Jake was able to have finishing positions of 5th in his first heat , 3rd in his second heat and won his 3rd heat .

Going into Sunday Jake was 3rd on points and only needed a good run in his 4th heat to maintain that position .

On Sunday morning Jake was able to finish 6th in his heat and this qualified him in position 3 for the final .

The final was run on track that wasn’t the best for passing opportunities and when the race got under way Jake fell into 3rd place and was challenging for 2nd the entire race until on lap 19 whilst trying to complete a pass he himself was passed and he ended up finishing 4th for the meeting.

Whilst Jake was disappointed with this result, the team was very happy with his first title run in this class at a track that is unfamiliar to him .

The meeting for Wayne was very successful .

On Saturday he was able to win all 3 heats and was top points scorer going into the second days racing .

In fact the point lead Wayne had was sufficient enough to ensure he would have pole position for the final without even running the 4th heat .

However Sunday morning he did compete and unfortunately was involved in a first turn accident and recorded a DNF for that race .

The heat wins on Saturday saw Wayne start form pole for the final and he was able to lead and control the race for the entire 20 laps .

The track conditions were such that he had to concentrate and make sure that he never missed his marks therefore opening the door to the rest of the field .

In the end he did this and went on to be crowned the 2011 NSW Champion .

This result means that Wayne is the current Australian and State champion in his class .

So all in all the team was very happy with its results and look forward to getting back to Nepean Motorsport Complex  this weekend to compete in the rerun of the washed out round 2 of the NSWSKC 2011 championship .
